Forte’s Guide to the Neighborhoods of Las Vegas
Whether you’re looking to relocate to Las Vegas or are a current resident interested in a change of pace, we have put together this guide to Las Vegas’s neighborhoods to help you find the right place to call home. Las Vegas has something for everyone, whether you’re looking for a family-friendly neighborhood, a trendy, upscale area, or a vibrant and lively atmosphere focused on everything that nature has to offer.
Summerlin
Perfect for anyone looking for an area full of amenities, Summerlin has everything from shopping to dining to outdoor recreation.
Boasting over 22,500 acres of its own parks, Summerlin is also close to Red Rock Canyon which features extensive hiking trails for anyone looking to get outdoors. However, nature isn’t the only thing Summerlin has to offer, Downtown Summerlin is an outdoor mall where you can find many high-end shopping and dining options. After Downtown Summerlin’s expansion, over 125 stores will be found in the area, ensuring that there’s something for every need.
Plus, Summerlin is also home to the Las Vegas Ballpark, where you can catch a game to cheer on the Las Vegas Aviators (a MiLB team affiliated with the Oakland Athletics). Other events in Summerlin include the Las Vegas Farmer’s Market on Saturdays and the Festival of Arts in October.
The Strip
When thinking of Vegas, nothing comes to mind faster than the Strip. Lively and full of excitement, the Strip is lined with casinos, nightlife, and restaurants, some of which make Las Vegas famous. When it comes to housing near the Strip, you’ll find modern apartments and condos in high-rise buildings.
The Strip is home to world-renowned luxury resorts and casinos such as the Wynn, Venetian, MGM Grand, and many more! There are many fine-dining options and celebrity chef restaurants, such as Gordon Ramsey’s Hell’s Kitchen and Spago by Wolfgang Puck.
If you’re looking to shop at high-end stores, such as Tiffany’s, Dior, Cartier, etc., the Strip is the right place to go! Many of the shops, such as Crystals, Caesar’s Forum Shops, and shops at the Bellagio have elaborate architecture and entertainment, making them an experience as well.
DTLV
Downtown Las Vegas, while a short drive away, is considered a separate area from the Strip, but not dissimilar from the downtowns of other cities around the country. Things are easily accessible, making it easy to navigate without a car. The area has recently undergone a revitalization, making it filled with trending restaurants, cafes, shops, and housing.
Before the Strip was the main attraction in town, DTLV was the place to visit. While much of the area has been updated, attractions such as the Fremont Street Experience, Viva Vision light show, and a multitude of wedding chapels, can still offer a feel for what old Vegas was. At the Neon Museum, you can find vintage neon lights from torn down hotels, restaurants, and attractions in the boneyard.
Another part of DTLV is the Arts District- a neighborhood that features many local, eclectic shops and street art, making it a vibrant and artistic part of the city.
North Las Vegas
A mostly residential area, North Las Vegas is home to many families and is very family-friendly. Many small shopping areas cater to a large demographic of families, with many familiarly named restaurants.
The most notable attraction of the area is the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, with the main track hosting NASCAR races. You can also catch drag and dirt racing if that’s more your speed.
It is also close to the Nellis Air Force Base, which makes the area a great location if you’re relocating to Las Vegas for military service.
Henderson
Technically its own city, Henderson neighbors Las Vegas to the southeast. Filled with master-planned communities of its own, Henderson is an incredibly safe area to call home. In 2017, Forbes named it the second safest city in America.
Home prices range from reasonably priced into the millions, making the city diverse. Residents can enjoy the many parks and outdoor spaces, or visit the upscale Rio Secco Golf Club. For outdoor recreation, there are over 180 miles of trails throughout the city, great for biking, walking, or running. If that’s not quite your thing, you can find dog parks, sporting areas, and playgrounds that you and your family will love. Henderson is also home to the only scenic bird preserve in the state, making it a great place for observing nature in its natural habitat.
Once you’re ready to head indoors, Henderson has shopping and dining areas, casinos, and movie theaters for your enjoyment.
Whatever it is you’re looking for in a place to call home, Las Vegas has it. From natural beauty and outdoor recreation to world-class entertainment, shopping, or dining, Las Vegas has something for everyone to enjoy.
